I don't wanna be a politician, mama (I don't wanna lie)
I don't wanna be a Catholic priest, mama (I don't wanna make small boys cry)
It's hard to find a satisfying, well-paid profession these days.
A career opportunity, largely overlooked by mainstream media, is being a
Rakeback Whore
Nevertheless, it's a great choice with numerous benefits.
You can work in the comfort of your own home (with your clothes on), you don't need to spend any money on an outstanding training site (like DeucesCracked) and you don't need to be particulary intelligent.
The simple necessaries are a good rakeback deal, a poker client and a basic strategy for past-paced games like Rush Poker or Super Turbo Sit 'n Go's. All these can be found right here, be clicking on the appropriate link.
Now deposit your start-up funds in your poker account and mass-table the game of your choice for as many hours a day as you can handle... Every week you will be rewarded with a nice rakeback-paycheck that will fill your heart with happiness and make all the hours well worth your time ($$$!)...
Happy whoring!

A Simple Guide To Super Turbo Sit 'n Go Strategy
If you like the idea of online poker but find it hard to put up the hours or the brain activity; there's still hope:
The Super Turbo Sit 'n Go
(It's over before you know it)
Multi-tabling these with only a basic strategy and a fine rakeback deal is a sweet way to make some hard-earned cash...
Basic rule: One Mouse Click = One Hand
(push or fold, don't even think about doing anything fancy)
The starting stack is only 10 big blinds. Do not panic! Shoving robust hands (preferably in late position) is all you have to do for now. Let your opponents knock each other out while you keep it tight.
Once you get in spots with effective stacks of about 3 big blinds you can loosen up considerably. Shove about everything (preferably against as few opponents as possible).
Try to keep your own stack above 3 big blinds at all times.
Keep an eye on stack sizes (and, if your into it, player tendencies) to find spots that offer a good risk/reward ratio. Think about what will happen with your (and your opponents) stack size when you choose to push, fold or call a shove. Planning your moves around this idea is the key to winning.
Finally, be more willing to shove around and beyond the money bubble...
That's all you need to know!
Good luck at the tables

Farewell to Sit 'n Go's
This week's episode of the 'Deuce plays' podcast finally made me decide to abandon online sit n' go's completely... The show features an interview with DeucesCracked-instructor Casey 'Bones' Diener about the current state of online sit 'n go's.
There's no more money in those games,
everyone's sort of solid.
Well, most players have a least a few vague but correct ideas about push/folding these days. Figuring out when to go all-in and when to fold is about all it takes (besides running good, of course).
The edges are getting thinner. Even the fish have heard about ICM.
A Return On Investment of about 3% on mid- and high-stakes games is the best one can expect. Making good money this way becomes a long and hard grind. Multi-tabling up to 12 tables, playing at least 100 games a day and having a good rakeback deal are bare necessity's to get some cash out of sit n' go's.
Playing poker is all about easy money.
Grinding sit 'n go's turns it into just another day job.
No more of this for me.

The Year of Running Hot?
Forty hours into 2010...
(only 7 hours when discounting the time being wasted, drunk, passed out or hung over)
Played twenty $60 Turbo SNG's at Full Tilt,
up a little bit over +$500.
A fine start of the new year...

December Reviewed
Another profitable poker month it was...
I played only Sit 'n Go's and Multi-Table Tournaments on Full Tilt.
No cash games, no other poker rooms.
Don't know why really.
It just turned out that way.
Anyway, I wasn't able to keep up the +$1K profit 'till the end.
Made just under half of that amount.
Still, not bad at all.
My fifth winning month in a row.
I'm happy.

A Rather Rich Fish (Time to Relax)
A year ago I played $12 Turbo Sit 'n Go's on Full Tilt.
That was the highest buy-in I was bankrolled for at the time.
Over this Christmas weekend I played sixty $60 Turbo Sit 'n Go's.
The idea was to get rich or loose it all in 1 weekend.
Nothing really happened.
No drama, no busted bankroll or excessive wins.
About break-even, not including rakeback. But it was good fun.
Really, it's been a long time since I had this kind of fun playing online poker....
Now I'm confident and bankrolled to play a lot more $60 SNG's.
So, this it. I am where I want to be.
Struggling, swearing and sweating a whole year to make it to the $60 level. It's been the goal from the start of 2009. My bankroll-management-chart stops here.
A goal reached,
time to relax.
I don't feel the need to push it much further than this anytime soon.
All I want to be is a happy $60-level player (for now).
Maybe play less hours, cash out some of my winnings and spend more time enjoying this silly thing called life ...
Only three more weeks and I'll finally leave this dull city behind.
Craving the sunshine.
Longing for that little beach town far out in the East.
Got someone waiting for me in paradise...

On The Edge
Playing on the edge is going great.
Running high above expectation.
My ROI is well above 30% for the month.
Life is very easy with a double digit Return On Investment...
Staying sharp and focused doesn't take much effort when in the flow.
Cashing almost most of the time.
Cashing a lot...
($$$!)
My time all alone in the big, cold city is certainly paying of for now.
I'm sure the Sit 'n Go Video Series by Derek Williams on PokerVT also helps me a lot. With very little distractions, the $36 Sit 'n Go games on Full Tilt are very soft. Avoiding the bad side of variance is all it really takes.
But, I know, the real challenge is further down the path.
Every single fish runs hot every now and then.
The trick is to stay focused and dedicated when the deck turns cold.
Until then,
I'm going to push this sweet, sweet upswing as far as possible...

Hundred bucks a day...
Breaking news:
I just won a sit 'n go!
(... the second one this month)
*
I ran pretty well today (at last).
But still far behind the great Deezel50.
He's a winning regular at the $24 Turbo SNG's at Full Tilt (over a significant sample size).
His playing style is extremely solid... but most of time when our paths cross I see him win a large number of flips.... It's amazing to see a player shove and win on 4 tables simultaneously.
Is that really wat it takes to become a long-term SNG grinder? Skills and a lot of luck to win a large number of coin-flips?
Anyway, I really got nothing to complain about today.
First I grinded out a small profit in the cash games. Than lost it all in one sad hand: I had pocket kings but got a very ill-timed and stressed-out phone call on the Ace-high flop.
No need to make an ugly story any longer...
Being heavily distracted, I misplayed my hand and lost a big pot.
The dangers of cash games, I guess.
Luckily I made up for the loss during my SNG session:
cashed in 3 out of 4 games.
So, after yesterday's success I added about another $100 to my weekend winnings.
The plan is to keep running good & smooth as long as possible.

A Very Cold Month
"When you taught you lost everything, you find out you can always lose some more... "
(a part of a Bob Dylan song)
Here's a FlopZoom graph of my last 493 hands of sit 'n go poker. It's not pretty. 43 times I had a one pair hand, 7 times two pair. The other 443 hands I folded or missed...
Is there anything left to say?
*
There's very little room for big bluffs or daring moves in a turbo sit 'n go. Without a quality hand every now and then it is hard. It is really hard. The format starts annoying me. Shoving with a 10 big blind stack to lose time after time...
*
I don't know how long I want to keep torture myself like this... It's hard to even remember the days when I was running well...
*
November is rigged.

The Profound Pain Of A Poker Player
The last 90 minutes of my life in 4 pictures...
Now all I really need are a porcupine (preferably one with a damned Full Tilt logo tattooed on its butt) and a baseball bat...
(All pics from Full Tilt $24 Turbo Sit 'n Go's when shoved and called)
Maybe I need to read a book about winning coin flips...
Having the villain crushed, dominated, by the balls and what not is only fun pre-flop...

The $36 Curse
It's a great weekend.
Sunny weather.
Love, life, poker - everything cool.
No alarms and no surprises.
Life like it should be.
What better time to face my old foe again?
The $36 Turbo Sit 'n Go's at Full Tilt...
Those games almost wiped out my bankroll back in March...
The trouble is that I don't feel outclassed or outplayed in these games.
On the contrary,
even before I knew I was better than I thought I was (???),
I felt I really could handle it.
The difference in the opponent level compared to the $24 games is minimal.
Sadly my stats tell a whole different story:
I played 259 x $36 Turbo SNG's.
ROI = -14%.
A total fish.
I'm probably better of throwing $36 out of the window.
With a little bit of luck (on a windy day, for example) some notes might fly back into my house...
My ROI should be higher that way.

Anyway, nothing has changed.
I played 2 games this morning.
Felt like the best player at the table.
Half an hour later I was down -$72...

Quote of the Day
“I cannot really critique Vagabond’s play here too much because there’s not really much he’s doing wrong, if anything”
-- Poker Pro Derek Willams on PokerVT
(Online Strategy with Derek Williams/ User Submitted Hand History Review 5)
Just watched two of my own hand histories reviewed on PokerVT.
Now I cannot get rid of this smile on my face...
I've been sending in hand histories for a few weeks now.
Showing of my donkey moves in an online video while getting expert advice from a seasoned pro... It seemed like a fair trade of.
But as it turned out, there were very little donkey moves in my hand histories.
My sit and go play looks leak-free and rock solid on video.

Hey, I'm a winning player.
Derk said it, so it must be true...
This is such a huge confidence boost!
I am on the right track.
As long as I can persevere I'll get there in the end...

A Terrible Call
I'm in a PokerVT video!
Sadly, I'll be mostly remembered for a terrible call...
Poker pro Derek Williams did a review video of one of his own sessions he played for the PokerVT Weekly SNG series. I happen to be in that game.
Anyway, everything goes well until Derk shoves for about 10 big blinds from under the gun +2. Everyone folds to the big blind (me) and I call with my 7 big blind stack.
Derk turns over AQs and I have KJs....
It's been two weeks since that game so I forgot already about that call.
But seeing it in a video...
It's disgusting!
How could I make such a call???
Derk puts the hand in SNGWizard and it's very clear that my call is very Ev-
Always a loosing play.
So why did I make the call?
Because I was a bit down back then, unhappy and stressed out...
Because I was folding trash-hand after trash-hand after trash-hand....
When I finally got 2 suited picture cards...
I wasn't going anywhere...
Probably blaming bad luck for loosing the hand.
In short, I called for al sorts of emotional and irrelevant reasons.
That sucks.
This makes a few things very clear:

Summer's almost gone
A beautiful sunny day at the end of August.
Summer's almost gone.
I'll have to enjoy it while it lasts.
So I took a +2 hour lunch break to reread 'Sit 'n Go Strategy' by Moshman in a quiet corner of a beautiful park.
It are the little things that make life bearable.
Winning at poker also helps.
I started playing again.
Took a slow start last night.
The ChipMeUp investment didn't pay of.
But today I won 2 out of 4 sit 'n go's at PokerStars.
So I'll just have to keep playing myself.
That's OK.
Tomorrow's another month.
Another Iron Man Challenge at Full Tilt.
Another 3 hours of poker a day for me.
But hey, it are the little things that make life bearable.
(little things & money)

3 Days Off
I decided to give myself 3 days off of playing any poker,
starting today.
Since January I never went without more than 1 day without playing.
That's a long time.
Lots of lonely hours spent in front of a computer screen.
Numerous upswings and numerous painful downswings.
Sometimes you just need a break.
If I had the time I would go somewhere sunny.
But alas, stuck in Brussels for now.
I now all about variance and running bad, but still...
Barely brake even over my last 1000 sit and go's.
That's not a happy feeling.
Rereading Moshman's 'Sit 'n Go Strategy' for the fifth time now...
Playing around with this blog.
Watching all the sit and go video's on PokerVT one more time.
Absorbing all the information without getting upset about another bad beat.
Clearing my head...
Sunday I hope to return to the virtual felt relaxed, stronger and
ready to eat the fish alive!

Vagabond Strikes Back!
Last night I had the very difficult choice between watching reruns of 'House M.D.' on TV or play in in the weekly SNG series of PokerVT (a training site I'm a member of) on PokerStars.
No idea what to choose.
Luckily, my Mac Tv-tuner( EyeTV) screwed up and didn't start recording at the set time.
So I gave the SNG Series a shot.
It was great.
I didn't have so much fun playing poker in a long time.
First it was really cool to try to beat my fellow PokerVT-members on the virtual felt.
We're exchanging strategy in the Poker VT forms all the time.
Putting theory into practice against them was a lot of fun.
And of course, sitting at a table with our SNG teacher and poker pro Derek 'Derk' Willams was a great experience.
My results adding to the pleasure as I'm currently ranked third in the 'PokerVT weekly SNG series'- leaderboard!
So today's the last day of my August holiday and, for the first time in a while, I made a profit during the Full Tilt Happy Hour as well.
Cashing 4 out of 8 SNG's and winning 2!
Maybe it sounds less spectacular than it is.
But it really is a big deal right now.
I desperately needed a win to break this depressing downswing.
Let's hope things go uphill from here!
Now I should try and enjoy the sunshine a bit before it's back to work tomorrow...
No idea what to choose.

Sit & Go Sadness
I played only about 20 SNG's this weekend.
Sit & Go Sadness is here.
Things didn't really work out.
Cashed a few times but wasn't even able to win one.
Let alone two.
Bye bye, $50K freeroll...
Of course, I blame randomness and variance.
Down about -$200 for the weekend.
Things could be better.
But hey,
a least I own a domain name and got this blog started...

Sunday Morning Run
It's the best part of the week.
The only time I ever feel like this city is mine.
Sunday morning 8 a.m.
Running trough deserted streets and abandoned parks,
over quiet roundabouts and empty parking spots.
Ignoring all traffic lights.
Someone walks his dog.
A drunk lays passed out in a lawn.
Everything is quiet now.
The city's still asleep.
The first sunbeam of the day
Running faster/ further
At peace.
Soon I'll arrive home.
Tired and satisfied.
A hot shower and breakfast.
Time to login... I might be finally ready for 'Sit and Go Madness' at Full Tilt.
Only 10 hours left.
But it's never too late to win.
