2009: The Year of The Triple Up

Time to look back one final time...

The year of fear, they called it on the news.
I don't know. I wasn't really there.
The Year of Nowhere
(but here)

I cannot remember ever been away from home for longer than a day.
Been to Holland a few times
and I do remember one Summer day in Ghent.
That's about it.
I started out on my own.
Now the year is coming to a end
I'm on my own again.

Luckily,
all things poker are fine

2009 was a good year.
It sure didn't feel that way
 but it was.

I have more than 3 times the amount of money I started playing with on January 1.
A fine investment.
Tripled my bankroll in a year.
+$3K in profit
'Bing Blang Blaow'
I hoped and dreamed to make a lot more, offcourse
Nevertheless,
starting out with $ and ending with $$$+ equals happines.
It's been a good time, after all.

Nothing left to do but smile and counting down the days until I'll be away from here...

The PokerStars Adventure

Last May I took a rather impulsive decision.
Without any plans for the upcoming summer,
going trough a long, troublesome downswing on Full Tilt
I opened a PokerStars-account and deposited $500.
Unlocking their first-deposit-bonus looked very Ev+
It was.
After cashing the bonus I quickly forgot all about it.
Always busy with Full Tilt happy hours, the Iron Man Challenge, SNG Madness, etc.
No time left for PokerStars.
Until this afternoon, when counting the 2009 bankroll...
Turned out I made almost $200 on Stars...
Must have been a good run of cards!
A well-spend deposit.
Just bank-transfered the profit...
It's a whole new level of satisfaction to cash out poker dollars and turn them into real-life $$$...
This must be what it's all about!
Play poker + Cash out = Enjoy life

2009: The Year of RakeBack

Maybe it sounds like I'm on repeat. I probably am.
Rakeback can turn a small-time loser into a slightly winning player..
Think about it.

But most of all I just wanted to post this picture:

(Picture made by some Two Plus Two-dude)

December Reviewed

Another profitable poker month it was...
I played only Sit 'n Go's and Multi-Table Tournaments on Full Tilt.
No cash games, no other poker rooms.
Don't know why really.
It just turned out that way.
Anyway, I wasn't able to keep up the +$1K profit 'till the end.
Made just under half of that amount.
Still, not bad at all.
My fifth winning month in a row.
I'm happy.

2009: The Year of The Bonus

I never realized how much money there's to be made with poker bonuses.
Rakeback and bonuses had a huge impact on my total profit.
Maybe because my Return On Investment is just a single digit...
This year I got more than half of my poker income out of rakeback, the Full Tilt Iron Man Challenge and numerous other bonuses...
So putting in the extra hours to unlock a bonus can make a big difference.
I'll know what to do next year...
Cashing in on reward programs as a little cure for variance.

Don't Be A Fish (Get RakeBack)

When you play Sit 'n Go's or Multi-Table Tournaments online you always pay an entrance fee to the poker room. How much depends on the size of the buy-in and the speed of the game. In cash games the poker room takes a certain fee out of each pot.

But did you know you can get a refund on any rake you pay?

If you sign up for a new account on any online poker room trough RakeFreeze you'll get back a portion of the rake you pay each month... (Up to 40%!)

This can have a huge impact on your winnings (or losses) over any amount of time...

Start 2010 in style;
make sure to maximize your profit by getting rakeback at RakeFreeze.com!

A Rather Rich Fish (Time to Relax)

A year ago I played $12 Turbo Sit 'n Go's on Full Tilt.
That was the highest buy-in I was bankrolled for at the time.

Over this Christmas weekend I played sixty $60 Turbo Sit 'n Go's.
The idea was to get rich or loose it all in 1 weekend.
Nothing really happened.
No drama, no busted bankroll or excessive wins.
About break-even, not including rakeback.  But it was good fun.
Really, it's been a long time since I had this kind of fun playing online poker....

Now I'm confident and bankrolled to play a lot more $60 SNG's.
So, this it. I am where I want to be.
Struggling, swearing and sweating a whole year to make it to the $60 level. It's been the goal from the start of 2009. My bankroll-management-chart stops here.
A goal reached,
time to relax.
I don't feel the need to push it much further than this anytime soon.
All I want to be is a happy $60-level player (for now).
Maybe play less hours, cash out some of my winnings and spend more time enjoying this silly thing called life ...

Only three more weeks and I'll finally leave this dull city behind.
Craving the sunshine.
Longing for that little beach town far out in the East.
Got someone waiting for me in paradise...

The Christmas Blues

So this is Christmas
And what have we done?
Another year over
A new one not just yet begun...
Contrary to popular believe
there are some fine holiday tunes
(and liquor & dope, of course)
to fight off this x-mas blues
Smallish sample size...

Tom Waits - Christmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis

Jon Lajoie - Cold Blooded Christmas

Bob Dylan - Must Be Santa

Offline: The Final Frontier

My internet connection has been very unreliable for the last two weeks.
Luckily I never got disconnected while playing any serious poker.

But it still was a troublesome time.

Suddenly there's nothing more than this lonely place in the cold, dark winter night.
No poker.
No Skype, no e-mail, no Twitter.
No movies to download
Not even Google Maps to find my way to the repair shop.
Lost in the offline world.
Life's hard out there.
Seriously.

The thought of having to spend the whole Christmas weekend in that scary world almost drove me mad.
'The Horror! The Horror!'

But salvation came right in time.
After numerous stressful calls to my Internet Service Provider, they finally gave in and decided to send a technician. It worked out great. He was friendly and helpful. Not at all as expected. I have no idea what he did exactly. But he spend over an hour with wires and modems and stuff, doing tests and whatnot until he could guarantee internet would not let me down again.
Forget about Jesus.
This Christmas I dedicate to that internet-repair guy.
He helped me escape the darkness and brought me back into the shiny light of a high-speed internet connection. That's a hell of a lot more than I can give Jesus credit for...

So time to get back on schedule...
While the rest of the world is indulging in food and drinks, I'll be sharp and ready to take anyone's money who decides to play a few $60 Sit n' Go's on Full Tilt in between Christmas celebrations.

Thank you, technician dude!

Moving Up

Done playing the $30-level Sit 'n Go's at Full Tilt.
Good bankroll management dictates the time is now.
I don't care about the swings anymore.

The goals is to get rich
(or fail and be miserable).

There's no time for in-between anymore.
If I'm going to be an average poker-player, I might as well just be an average TV-viewer.
It's all the same, anyway.

So about moving up...
Playing the $50-level Sit 'n Go's.
At first I was bit nervous.
But it's the same game.
Nothing ever chances.
Still lots of fishy moves going on,
still in need of luck every now and then.
More money to be won or lost.
That's it.

Things didn't really go my way on this first day. No worries. Tomorrow's another day.
Losing is a lot less stressful
when turning back is not an option...

How Not To Run A Company

Rather early this morning my precious sleep got brutally interrupted by a phone call. It was my boss telling me (accusing me) I should be at work right now.

"No, I shouldn't.
I have a day off and you signed the document to approve it yourself,
you dumb cocksucker!
I have it right here and will stick it in your face, with great satisfaction (tomorrow morning)!
Now shut up and let me sleep."

What I really say is, of course, a very sleepy and way more polite version of those specific thoughts...

The point being if you cannot even keep track of something like this, how can you possibly run a company in a successful way? This is just another example of the poor performance the management demonstrates time after time.
I try not to give a fuck,
just enjoying the ride to the monthly paycheck,
planning to leave one day.
But it's so depressing to see how dumb people take dumb decisions time after time, only to blame the economical crisis for the decline of their company...

Underachieving's a bitch.

My advice; if you have any holiday gifts to send this Christmas, send them by UPS.

Punch In The Face

Full Tilt Poker MiniFTOPS Event #8 No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t30/t60 Blinds - 6 players - View hand 423476

The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

BTN: t4055 M = 45.06

Hero (SB): t4220 M = 46.89

BB: t3345 M = 37.17

UTG: t7530 M = 83.67

MP: t5160 M = 57.33

CO: t10690 M = 118.78

Pre Flop: (t90) Hero is SB with Q of hearts Q of clubs

2 folds, CO raises to t180, BTN calls t180, Hero calls t150, BB calls t120

Most of the time I will 3bet in this spot but the CO and the BTN have been rock tight over about 100 hands. Having them both in a raised pot smells like trouble. So I decide to see a flop, planning to probably check-fold most flops. The BB has been playing very loose so far. His call is as expected.

Flop: (t720) 4 of hearts 8 of hearts 8 of clubs (4 players)

Hero checks, BB bets t500, CO folds, BTN folds, Hero calls t500

A donk-bet by the BB and the two rocks folding is a beautiful recipe for taking down a big pot. We are too deep-stacked for me to raise. I don't want to get check-raised by a silly flush draw or something.

Turn: (t1720) J of spades (2 players)

Hero checks, BB bets t2665 all in, Hero calls t2665

Another beautiful sequence for my hand. A safe card on the turn and the fish overbetting the pot. Here I'm very confident. Or he has a four and got scared of the Jack or he has hit his Jack (by surprise) and is going nuts. Either way I got him beat.

River: (t7050) K of diamonds (2 players - 1 is all in)

Final Pot: t7050

Hero shows Q of hearts Q of clubs (two pair, Queens and Eights)

BB shows 8 of spades 9 of clubs (three of a kind, Eights)

Bye bye, dreams...

BB wins t7050

A Night To Forget

Not even two hours into my big Full Tilt Poker multi-table tournament session... That's all the time it took to shatter my hope and dreams for tonight.

Busted out of MiniFTOPS #8 just before the first break,
busted out of the daily $11 Heads-Up Tournament in Round 2...

Now I'm only 1-tabling the $11 Super Stack $10K Guarantee but the earlier losses and the super slowwwww structure of this tournament make it very hard to stay focused (or even to stay awake)...

So another day without victory...
Quiet and uneventful.
No alarms or surprises.
Winning big will be for another day
once again...

A Night To Remember?

Today was a beautiful, cold winter day.
Slept 'till noon, played some sit 'n go's and did a bit of cleaning up.
Around dusk I went for a long, good run.
After a hot shower and a hot cup of tea it's time for a night of multi-table tournaments at Full Tilt Poker. The MiniFTOPS are running. So I'll start with Event #8, a $200K Guarantee 6-max Knockout tournament. Playing numerous other tournaments while the night unfolds... Hopefully finishing off in style somewhere in the early morning hours...
Let's hope it's a good one!

11 Days. 11 Hundred.

So 2 Months. 2 Million. was a cool show...
But they didn't reach their goal, did they?
Plenty of hot women, pool side party's, Las Vegas nightlife and goofy stunts. But nowhere near $2 million profit....

Here at Filthy Rich Fish things are different.
No women, no party's, not much going on in general...
No goofiness except my own reflection in the mirror (early in the morning).

Here it's all about...

Eternal traffic jams (driving me crazy),
dark days and lonely nights.
Pitch black coffee and lots of cigarettes.
Staring at shadows on the wall.
Listening to Dylan singing christmas songs
(over and over again)
Wondering about the point of it all...
and over 20 hours of
grinding $36 Sit 'n Go's at Full Tilt.

But this morning,
just before dawn I reached a personal milestone:

11 Days into December, a little over $1K in Sit 'n Go winnings!

(Damn proud about it)

On The Edge

Playing on the edge is going great.

Running high above expectation.
My ROI is well above 30% for the month.
Life is very easy with a double digit Return On Investment...

Staying sharp and focused doesn't take much effort when in the flow.
Cashing almost most of the time.
Cashing a lot...
($$$!)

My time all alone in the big, cold city is certainly paying of for now.
I'm sure the Sit 'n Go Video Series by Derek Williams on PokerVT also helps me a lot. With very little distractions, the $36 Sit 'n Go games on Full Tilt are very soft. Avoiding the bad side of variance is all it really takes.

But, I know, the real challenge is further down the path.
Every single fish runs hot every now and then.
The trick is to stay focused and dedicated when the deck turns cold.
Until then,
I'm going to push this sweet, sweet upswing as far as possible...

A Simple Plan

The goal for December is simple and short:

'Play as much poker as possible!!!'

2009 was an uneventful and boring year.
In life and in poker:
didn't go anywhere,
didn't even really try to get somewhere.
Maybe something was going on
but I didn't know what or where...

I've been playing poker poorly for the last 10 months or so.
Like a scared, little middlle-class office clerk:
proudly writing down every small winning session
but being oh-so afraid and upset after loosing...

Things are different now.
This time I feel completely committed.

It's impossible to win big on a regular basis
if you can't handle equally big losses.
Handling big money swings is a crucial skill in poker.

But if winning or losing a few hundred dollar a month makes me feel good or bad... Well, I might as well try fantasy football, start playing 'Monopoly' or hang out with colleagues in a crappy bar after work.
Whatever.
Hobby's are for losers.

I'm in it for the money.

Better to crash and burn (or rise and get rich) then to fade away.
This winter I'll put my money where my mouth is...

November Reviewed

Too much wondering
Way too much waiting
Almost no poker

Only 915 hands in cash games and
146 games of tournament play
(heads up, sit 'n go and multi-table combined)

Those numbers almost suggest I have a life away from the computer.

Don't let them fool you.

It was just a rough start
than I got seriously sidetracked by
life, love & whatnot

Now I am back.
Up about +$30 for the month.

Fully committed for more.
Next month I'll go all the way...
(upriver & beyond)

The Come Back Fish

Early last Thursday my girl left this city behind,
traveling to the far end of the world
for a long, long time...

So I watched 'Apocalypse Now Redux'
with a bottle of Jack Daniels (again).
Sobered up,
cleaned the premises
and
(Saturday around noon)
logged in on Full Tilt Poker.

Thirty-six hours have passed
an I'm up over +$500 for the weekend...

Let it be a long and lonely winter!

Big in India

Right before I was on the verge of becoming a filthy rich poker pro,
(right after I almost became the greatest war photographer of all time),
I was on my way to become an international praised & loved YouTube-movie-maker.

Now it turns out there are people out there who still watch my videos...

Especially "Blue Fuck (aka Fucking Blue)", one of my more hmmm... experimental attempts at video-making, fame and immortality. It has got at least 10 views a day for the last six months straight, most of the views originating in India.

India, a county where my art gets the attention and respect it deserves?

Tought about moving to the Great Indian Subcontinent for a while, until I discovered what those viewers where really looking for...

Almost all views come from people who do a Google-search for 'fucking blue film' (and variations on that theme), so I guess my little arty-farty movie is not exactly what they were hoping to find...

But hey, I am big in India!

(aka 'annoying the shit out of horny Indians looking for porn since 2007')

Idea of the Week: Dropbox and Online Poker

Finally a smooth and easy solution to keep hand history files in sync on different computers...

So now I can play on my laptop while running Poker Copilot and have stats on all the players I played against at my desk...
At the end of each session I just copy my latest hand history files to the Dropbox-folder on my desktop computer. Next time I login on my laptop, all it takes is a quick copy/paste from the Dropbox-folder into the local hand history folder. All my data is up to date!
It's really that simple, Dropbox does all the heavy lifting.
Bye bye, USB-sticks and copying over a local wifi-network!
This is so much easier...
A 2GB-account (which is plenty for hand history purposes) is free.
Check it out here.

Strange Days

So it was young Joe Cada who took down the WSOP Main Event, becoming the 2009 World Champion of Poker... It was maybe a bit disappointing to see the great Ivey go out in 7th place but overall it was a very entertaining final table.
Lots of bad beats, suck outs and funky plays.
Once again it shows that all it takes are a dream and a tournament ticket to become filthy rich (and good karma might help, I guess).
That's as far as my November poker stories go.
Only four days before my love will travel to far, far away...
It makes me stay up all night and do nothing all day.
Waiting 'till d-day.
Just staring at the shadows on the wall.
Wishing for her to leave as soon as possible/
dreaming she doesn't go at all at the same time...

Hundred bucks a day...

Breaking news:
I just won a sit 'n go!
(... the second one this month)

*

I ran pretty well today (at last).
But still far behind the great Deezel50.
He's a winning regular at the $24 Turbo SNG's at Full Tilt (over a significant sample size).
His playing style is extremely solid... but most of time when our paths cross I see him win a large number of flips.... It's amazing to see a player shove and win on 4 tables simultaneously.
Is that really wat it takes to become a long-term SNG grinder? Skills and a lot of luck to win a large number of coin-flips?

Anyway, I really got nothing to complain about today.
First I grinded out a small profit in the cash games. Than lost it all in one sad hand: I had pocket kings but got a very ill-timed and stressed-out phone call on the Ace-high flop.
No need to make an ugly story any longer...
Being heavily distracted, I misplayed my hand and lost a big pot.
The dangers of cash games, I guess.
Luckily I made up for the loss during my SNG session:
cashed in 3 out of 4 games.

So, after yesterday's success I added about another $100 to my weekend winnings.

The plan is to keep running good & smooth as long as possible.

Lucky Friday

Due to circumstances (really!) I watched the romantic comedy Bride & Prejudice at 7 o'clock this morning.

... and that was just the beginning of a great day...

Work was extremely Zen-like.
(just a polite way of saying 'I didn't do shit and I enjoyed it very much, thank you')

Even online poker worked out great.
The combination of lots of fish and a good run of cards is a wonderful experience.

Playing $0.25/$0.50 cash games (6-max and heads-up) I made about $120 in an hour. That's how I like to kick off the weekend!

To get sufficient daily Full Tilt Points for the Iron Man Challenge I had to play some dreaded turbo sit 'n go's as well. Surprisingly, it wasn't a complete disaster. I still didn't win (only 1 win for this whole week!!!) but I managed to grind out another 20 bucks by taking enough 2nd and 3d places...

There is hope again.

Now it's time for the latest 2 WSOP-episodes to be well prepared to follow the final table action later this weekend. I'm rooting for Ivey because (1) he's the best player in the world and (2) it would be great to know you can muck a winning hand and still become world champion...

Illogical Consequences

I'm quickly running out of ways to say
"It's not going well"

*

My daily poker time is roughly between 19h00 en 22h00, Brussels time. All summer long there were lots of half-way decent regulars playing the $24 Turbo Sit 'n Go's at Full Tilt at this time. I grinded out a small, consistent profit.
Since autumn started, everything has changed significantly.
I guess the cool kids only hang out on the street in summer time. Now they all stay at home, donating $$$ to the more skilled players on Full Tilt and Stars.
Wonderful.
Fishy players at the poker table make me all warm inside
They put a smile on my face and make me wonder how I'll spend their money.
(... if I could just win a fucking coin flip every now and then... ) -very deep sigh-
***
So, here is a small message to all the new fish:

"Dearest fish, please keep playing those $24 Turbo Sit 'n Go's...

It's a really fun game, isn't it?
Right now I am not running so hot.
So I apologize if I don't always have friendly thoughts in mind when you do make a questionable call. Or, to be more accurate, when you do make a questionable call and manage to hit a miracle river card.
But it's nothing personal.
I really like you to sit at my table.
We'll have a real good time.
Soon.

(I'm sure you and me can turn this filthy graph back in the right direction...)

Thank you"

A Very Cold Month

"When you taught you lost everything, you find out you can always lose some more... "
(a part of a Bob Dylan song)

Here's a FlopZoom graph of my last 493 hands of sit 'n go poker. It's not pretty. 43 times I had a one pair hand, 7 times two pair. The other 443 hands I folded or missed...
Is there anything left to say?
*
There's very little room for big bluffs or daring moves in a turbo sit 'n go. Without a quality hand every now and then it is hard. It is really hard. The format starts annoying me. Shoving with a 10 big blind stack to lose time after time...
*
I don't know how long I want to keep torture myself like this... It's hard to even remember the days when I was running well...
*
November is rigged.

November

"November has tied me to an old dead tree
get word to April to rescue me"
- Tom Waits  'November'

November, november...
that damned, dark and cold time.
I used to hate this filthy month.
After I spend one November on a tropical beach it got better.
But still...
It's dark, it's cold and it will be very lonely near the end.

There's no redemption in November.

My goals, hopes and dreams are humble this time of the year.

First and foremost,
my love and I only got 25 days left together.
Than she'll travel to that faraway country in the East.
While I stay right here
for another 7 weeks and 4 days...

It's going to be a long and lonesome winter.

Lots of time to play poker.
But not just now.

First love, make money later.
I'll try to keep a light poker schedule for the next 4 weeks.
About 120 sit 'n go's on Full Tilt  should be enough to stay Iron Man.
Getting better at 6max cash games is  the goal.
For now, it is probably still Ev-
But hey, I am learning! (and learning a lot thanks to Jon Ettinger's wonderful video series on PokerVT) It should be possible to reach the Ev+ territory any time soon now. And of course, there will be some heads-up matches (to improve my game) and multi-table tournaments (to get real lucky one time).
So,

November is all about

Money & love,

getting the best of it /
making the most of it

October: The Results

60 hours of online poker...

210 tubo sit 'n go's
21 heads-up matches
7 multi-table tournaments
1247 hands of heads-up and six-max cash games

I put in the hours and the hands
but still,
it was a very slow month...

The bottom line:
+$123,85

It's not much but...
Hey, at least I am not a loser!

6-Max Strategy Tips

Six great strategy tips on no-limit hold 'em 6-max cash games:

  1. Open-limping is very fishy...
  2. Open-bet with a wide range (especially from late position) but avoid playing complete trash.
  3. Mix-up your 3bet range.
  4. Winning the blinds should always make you happy.
  5. Avoid big pots with marginal hands (the valley of unhappiness is never far away)
  6. Activate your Boom Switch by sending a sufficient amount of $$$ to VagabondBXL on Full Tilt.
Good luck at the tables!

Out Of Luck

A friendly home game of poker on a rainy Saturday night.
Sounds like a plan.
...and it was:
a great game.
But after about 6 hours I ended up right were I started. Break-even.
Although I took down numerous small pots all night long; in the big pots it all went wrong
(over and over again).
An unspeakable run of filthy cards turned my stone cold nuts into a split pot
(twice).
... and a miraculous one-outer got hit on the river
(leaving me hanging on in quiet desperation).
*
To turn my luck around I decided to skip the daily self-inflicted pain of playing 8 Sit 'n Go's.
So I started playing $0.25/$0.50 6max cash games on Full Tilt.
There's a series of great 6max- strategy videos by Jon Ettinger on PokerVT.
After watching the first few, I just had to try out my newly discovered wisdom.
I had a great start...
right until my pocket kings ran into a flopped set of sevens.
Acceptable variance.
No worries, slowly I made my way back up...

I saw him make this play a few times: 3betting pre-flop and donk-betting about full pot on any flop. The implied odds for deuces against his playing style are great: hit a set and stack that dude or get out quick and quietly.
There's absolutely nothing that can go wrong here.

Flop: ($12.50) 5 of diamonds 3 of diamonds 2 of spades (2 players)

SB bets $10, Hero raises to $42.75 all in, SB calls $32.75

Bing Blang Blaow; I got him right were I wanted.
Happily I shove my remaining stack.
Finally a perfectly executed perfect plan!

Turn: ($98.00) T of diamonds (2 players - 1 is all in)

River: ($98.00) 7 of diamonds (2 players - 1 is all in)

Final Pot: $98.00

SB shows T of hearts T of spades (three of a kind, Tens)

... ouch ... (silence) ...

Hero shows 2 of clubs 2 of hearts (three of a kind, Twos)

SB wins $95.00

(Rake: $3.00)

So,
I study and I play.
Then I study more and play some more.
After that I study and I ...
Somehow it doesn't pay off.
Got all the moves
but no $$$

People keep telling me about the long run.

Overcoming variance and win steady over a considerable amount of hands and time.

How considerable?
How long?

Might run out of luck long before the long run.
(or out of hope)

Should I turn to religion?
Slaughter a cow, dance down the street dressed in feathers, howl to the moon or burn incense for the Great Buddah?

... Sell my soul to the Devil maybe?

For a nice deposit bonus and Special Soul Points (for free gear) I might consider it. Should be Ev+

Deep Run In The Double Deuce

Last night I signed up for The $200K Guaranteed Double Deuce multi-table tournament at Full Tilt Poker.

It became a long journey, deep into the autumn night...

The tourney starts at 22h22 (Brussels time).
So, with 10718 participants and a deep-stacked blind-structure the final table doesn't take place before sunrise.

While the night unfolds, players get knocked out, the blinds rise. The hour is getting late...
Somehow the dream of final tabling hits.
Filthy richness is just the turn of a few cards away.

First place pays about $30K.
Pretty good value for a $22 investement.

Alas, the dream got shredded to pieces in my 305th hand of the night:
I shoved pocket sixes on the button, got called and lost it all...

Busted out in 298th place (after 5 hours of play) and won about $50.
It pushes this months tournament winning slightly out of the red. But that's about it...
No escape to sunny beaches just yet.

Next time all I need is 'one time'...

The $200K Double Deuce runs every Sunday at 16h22 ET (Full Tilt Poker). The buy-in is $22. Or even less as satellites with buy-ins of next-to-nothing run all week... Check it out at Full Tilt Poker.

When It All Goes South, Travel North

Here we go again... (the graph shows my combined tournament result for October 'till today)

Yesterday I lost another 8 sit 'n go's in a row
(-$200 in about 1 hour)...
Well, at least my confidence is not (completely) falling apart anymore as it used to be after a few bad sessions....
I played over 4000 sit 'n go's, read dozens of books and watched hours of PokerVT training videos. My game is solid. Rock solid. Derek said so. (lol, but just a little...). Even tilt becomes less of a problem. I counter it with strong logical thinking and reason. Like during my horrible session last night; I got sucked out on 6 (yes, six!) times in a row. Instead of tilting and blowing of another 44 bucks on my last 2 games, I stayed cool. Really cool. Gus Hansen cool. All I had to do was concentrate really hard an do whatever possible to win my last 2 games. Then I could even still make a profit for the night.
Alas, things turned out differently. But I had the right mindset (at least).

Sadly emotions tend to catch up eventually.
Like 15 minutes later while washing dishes, for example.
Completely falling apart with my hands drenched in soap and hot water...

I understand coin flips, I can accept bad beats, even the -$200 loss is not a big deal.
What really freaks me out is losing. The pain of losing repeatedly. Over and over again.
The fear that I will never be able to shake of 'failure' as my middle name... Alway stay mediocre.
There must be someway out of here !
(said the joker to the thief etc.)
At least I can be unhappy about this during working hours.
My only talent: underachieving during a boring day job.

Anyway, to lift up my spirits I'll make a 240 km round trip to the Dutch city of Tilburg tomorrow...
I don't like the drive. In fact, I hate it. Road trips are only cool in American movies. Nothing poetic about being stuck in traffic on the ring around Antwerp.
But returning home with some premium quality Dutch marihuana might make it all worthwhile...

By the way, boys and girls, don't forget to sign up for any of the great Filthy Rich Fish poker promotions.... They are really great value!

Laziness & Deception

After a few tough weeks at work I found myself at the good side of variance this morning.

For completely random reasons I got my old job back.
Finally away from this new environment where I have suffered for the last 3 weeks!

This old job I have done for more years than I wish to remember.
But a least I had the time do develop a serious edge here.
This is, by far, my greatest professional achievement ever.

I am a master in the fine arts of laziness and deception.

Spending as little time on performing professional tasks as possible
while keeping my superiors happy with a steady flow of rock-solid stats and data about my performance...
That's what being an employee is all about!

It's Monday afternoon and I can't quite decide if I am going to watch the latest episode of The Simpsons or some training videos on PokerVT...

If all Mondays could just be like this,
life would be almost bearable...

those are my goals for the remainder of the weekend.
